Kinfolk is a café with a slightly different take on daily affairs. They are a social business that not only serves delectable coffee and culinary delights; they redistribute their profits between four development projects, each with its own unique and significant purpose. Customers may choose to support the likes of a multifarious capacity-building initiative in Rwanda; an anti-child slavery set-up in Ghana; an education-focused project for young Indigenous Australians relationship-building and radical inclusion project for Melbourne’s homeless, marginalized and disenchanted. Another key ingredient of Kinfolk is that they run with the assistance of a team of eccentric, loveable and dedicated volunteer wait staff. With them they bring energy and enthusiasm that money cannot buy.
All this would never have eventuated without the pledge from Phillip Di Bella to support this simple initiative. After operating for nearly two years now that support continues helping Kinfolk to achieve all it set out to and more. Kinfolk have welcomed hundreds of volunteers through their doors, all of them taking what they need from the unique experience. Since opening, with the help of supporters like DiBella, they have been able to nurture a self-sustaining business, distribute $40,000 between their project beneficiaries and offer a nurturing, inspiring and caring space, both within and outside of our operation hours, for staff, volunteers and customers alike.
Kinfolk Cafe is located at 673 Bourke Street Melbourne, or check out a bit more at the following link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qyiYJd03eQ
